A great home victory for York RI against Malton 3 with the clear highlight being Christian’s first victory in team squash.
The evening started with a victory for myself and Jess. I think I was let off lightly as Nick had recently torn his abductor (I think it was that) so his mobility was limited. I didn’t see any of Jess’s game.
Perry then had a tight match with Cathal (which we clarified later on the pub you pronounce this without the t 😁) that was a high energy watch. The three games were close but Perry got them in the end.
Ian did his usual of pretending he was struggling with some issue or other (I’d stopped listening by the time he got to the actual issue when he was telling me) and got a 3-2 (edited) victory.
Then came the much anticipated first victory for Christian. I’ll admit, it didn’t start off with too much promise going 2 games down. Mid way through the third Christian started serving slightly different but with a lot more accuracy. This seemed to trigger a eureka moment where he remembered how to play squash! Jess even turned to me and whispered “What’s going on… where’s this come from?”. Anyway, after that there was no stopping and it ended with a 3-2 victory. I asked Christian after the game if he was feeling f#cked and he responded that he was feeling emotional and had a tear in his eye…..I couldn’t help responding that f#cked would have been better 😁🤔
After the game it was the usual trip to the Ackhorne where we had a few drinks and Mike had knocked together some veggie and gluten free sandwiches…as usual thanks to Mike. Chat in the pub revolved around tennis and squash differences, the Malton schedule and I believe I overheard Ian telling Cathal about his favourite caving places in Ireland (does that count as two defeats that evening for Cathal then? 😂😂)
