Thorton Le Dale 2 vs York RI (21/11/2024)

This was a fun away trip and really the first “away” game of the season (York doesn’t count really) but it was a 4-1 loss to TLD.

We were slightly delayed in getting there as traffic in York was rubbish. We then had enough of Ian by the time we got there as we “accidentally” locked him outside the TLD club.

Jess was the only victory we had which looked like a good game. I lost to Geoff “The Boast” Gibson and if I had known this nickname beforehand I might have known what to expect! A good game though and certainly part of the fun of playing other teams and people.

Perry vs Dan was a loss but all the games were really close. Perry calling a few serves out that were actually in was a shame but there was lots of pace in the game and I think Dan was calling on all his Firefighter fitness by the end.

Then we wrapped up with a classic that went the full five games between Ian and Paul. There was even a court change to accommodate the needs of the spectators. Some good banter from Paul made it a fun watch (a stroke award against Paul prompted the question to the Ref “was he there…of course he was there….he’s always f#cking there”). Ian admitted to us afterwards that he need Paul to pull him up from the bench in the changing room.

The highlight of the evening was then a curry in Pickering with some good banter. The drive home was quicker than getting there and involved Ian sharing that he had forgotten to bring a towel…..my foolish question of what did he do prompted an answer I didn’t even want 🙂
