York RI vs York 8

It finally happened….York RI home record of winning final succumbed to York 8 with a 4-1 loss.

It was an injury depleted performance (the Ange Postecoglou excuses are coming out) with Ian not able to play because of Tennis Elbow, Jess played but with a dodgy neck and Richard did a calf injury while playing.

The first game I saw was Jess playing Shiv and it was a slow start for Jess with the neck injury although I am sure she will claim it wasn’t that a big impact. She managed to pull a game back after the slow start but Shiv upped his game to get the victory. On the other court Richard manned on after his injury and impressively got 13 points in one game. I think there was some consternation about the playing on while in audible pain at points!

I played Alfie which was a good game as he was fast around the court but ultimately after getting a slender lead I held on with some good serves helping out. I didn’t see any of Perry’s game at number one in Ian’s absence but it was a loss for the RI.

The final game was Christian playing Dan which was also a victory for York with Christian being a bit short of match practice recently. Dan got congratulations as he came off court but also some friendly advice from Ian that “if he didn’t change his grip and continues to play he’ll get carpal tunnel in a few years” which was possibly not the usual congratulations 🙂

After the game it was a quick trip to the Ackhorne to chat about the game and performance in the league. Our promotion hopes long gone we need to think about next season.
