Another disappointing away performance from the York RI team going down to a 4-1 loss at Pocklington. The victory for Pocklington was even more impressive given that they have fallen on such hard times over there with no running water and not enough money to book courts for long enough….I heard Lenny Henry is on his way there now…:)
Peter had his first team squash game and gave a good account of himself even though he lost. I am sure that will change quickly and he enjoyed it which was good. Richard played at the same time and got our only win edging it 3-2 despite suffering from an onset of man-flu (which we all know is debilitating :)).
I played Simon in a repeat of the home fixture and lost. Some hard hitting shots and a decent game but I didn’t have a winning strategy. Great fun though.
Perry was 2-0 when the time ran out on the courts so play had to be temporarily suspended in a similar fashion to Wimbledon but without the glamour! While that suspension was taking place Ian was playing Mark and lost 3-0 but from memory I think it was 10-10 in all the games so could have gone differently. That break didn’t work well for Perry who continued after Ian had finished but it ended up as a 3-2 loss.
There was a very nice curry afterwards and as we found out in the Ackhorne its always nice to hang around with the Pock lads. We heard how they disputed the underfeeding of turkeys prior to Covid Christmas on the Jeremy Vine show, the dictatorship of Si’s team selection, and how there is explicit seating arrangements. I also need to give them credit for this idea of writing a match report but their version is apparently less censored than this so is just done on WhatsApp because of the content.
